KUCHING: Local artistes can benefit from the support of a local media team, which can provide them with a valuable exposure and the opportunity to reach a wider audience.
JayC Ho, a division head of the Sarawak Dancesport Association, dancer, performer and artiste spoke on behalf of all the artistes present at the press conference of the ‘Seni Kita Weekend’ at HAUS KCH, City Square on Thursday (March 16).
“Today, as we address the media team, I represent a community of artistes, including musicians, culinary artistes, painters, singers, and all other forms of art.
“We seek to engage the media team in writing more stories about us and our work and featuring us in the coverage. The media team can play an important role in promoting our local artistes’ talents,” he said.
JayC urged the media team to approach them for coverage in their newspaper or online news.
He believes that such coverage will be instrumental in expanding the artistes and performers reach to a broader audience.
“We can extend an invitation to any media team to cover any upcoming project by an artiste.
“By doing so, we can ensure the projects organised gain visibility and reach a wider audience,” he added.
JayC also added that although the modern era of digital marketing emphasises promoting oneself through social media, they do not wish to be left behind in utilising other mediums and platforms to promote themselves.
“As artistes seeking funding and sponsorship, we recognise the value of media coverage in building our portfolio and increasing our credibility.
“By featuring us in their articles, the media team can play a crucial role in helping us secure support from stakeholders. They can see where we perform and which articles feature our work, making them more likely to support us,” he added.
JayC also hopes that the media would be able to provide exciting stories and indirectly contribute to the growth of the artiste community and be an integral part of it.
