SRI AMAN: Two medical officers from the Ministry of Health (MoH) were seriously injured when their ambulance was involved in an accident on KM46 of the Sri Aman-Sarikei Road.

Sri Aman police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the accident happened around 4 early this morning.

Mathew provided preliminary details about the accident, noting that a damaged lorry trailer was parked on the roadside with a warning triangle placed approximately 50 metres behind it and its hazard lights activated.

“The trailer was suddenly struck by an ambulance from Hospital Betong, which collided with the right rear side of the lorry while returning from transporting a patient to the Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching,” he said in a statement.

Both the ambulance driver and a nurse sustained injuries and were transported to Sri Aman Hospital for treatment.

The driver, a 45-year-old male, sustained internal injuries, while the nurse, a 42-year-old female, suffered a facial fracture, a broken left arm, and a broken left leg.

The 54-year old male lorry driver who was unharmed has been detained and taken to the Traffic Police Station at IPD Sri Aman for further investigation.

Mathew said the case would be investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
