KUCHING: Thirty youth from all over Sarawak have completed a scaffolding training programme organised by SRC Global Resources Sdn Bhd.
At the end of this intensive training they were awarded recognised competency certificates from authorities such as the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (JKKP), National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) Safety Passport and Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Green Card.
With the high demand for scaffolding workers, the course will lead to opportunities for the certificate holders to seek good-paying jobs.
Some of the youth who attended the course that was held for about one month were interviewed after the closing ceremony. Generally, they were very positive about what they learned and hoped to land jobs soon. The following are their comments.
AMIN RELI, 20
The period of time to study in this course is relatively short, around one month only. However, a lot of knowledge was gained, and job opportunities are also almost guaranteed. Therefore, I would like to call on other youth to continue to find ways to achieve success.
MOHAMMAD AIZAD AIZZUDDIN ALWI, 18
We need to be diligent in finding initiatives to hone our abilities. Therefore, courses like this need to be utilised in order to gain useful knowledge and skills. Even though we don’t have high academic education, don’t be reluctant to venture into other fields. You can make a living everywhere.
AHAMAD KIPLI, 21
Through this course, I can move forward more confidently. It should pave the way to build a brighter future for me and my family. We don’t have to be office workers all.
NARAWAI SEBLI, 57
It is quite difficult to get jobs now. So, when the course was available, we were very grateful. All parents want their children to have a stable and good future. This opportunity can help us improve our standard of living, especially those of us who live in rural or semi-rural areas.
