SIBU: Sibu division is poised to benefit from two important mega projects in the near future, namely the Mid Rajang Regional Development Agency (MiRRDA) and the Bukit Assek Urban Renewal project.

Sibu Division Resident, Datuk Wong Hee Sieng pointed out that the success of these development projects would boost Sibu’s economic landscape, however it all depend on the positive response from the masses.

“We have two important developments in Sibu, one is the Mid Rajang Regional Development Agency (MiRRDA) whereby the government has approved RM1.5 billion for development in the areas encompassing Kanowit and Selangau parliamentary constituencies.”

“And the other one is the Bukit Assek Urban Renewal project. Perhaps this plan which has been approved will be implemented this year,” he said.

“Hence, one of the most important tasks for a community leader is that they have to explain thoroughly on any government development policies to the people in their respective areas,” he added.

Wong reiterated that most importantly, the Chinese community leaders must keep abreast of the latest government policies by giving examples when explaining to the communities.

He said this when officiating the Sibu Division Chinese Community Leaders Association (SDCCLA)’s Chinese New Year celebration dinner held at a leading hotel on Monday (March 11).

He cited as an example the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, touching on digital economy, as well as the other six elements including tourism, manufacturing, forestry, agriculture, service industry and mining.

Wong also commended Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau Lee Ming for his visionary leadership for helming the association to greater heights.

Among those present were Kanowit District Officer Jackline August, Selangau District Officer Inting Nyami, Sibu Iban Community paramount chief Temenggong Stanley Geramong and Pemanca Datuk Jason Tai Hee.
