KUCHING: The State Health Department has identified a new Covid-19 cluster named Melor Cluster.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today, said this cluster was traced at Lorong Melor, Kampung Beladin in Pusa district.
It said the index case for the cluster is a local woman, aged 23, and she was detected through screening of symptomatic individuals on Feb 24.
The number of positive cases involving this cluster to date is 14 including the index case.
“From the result of detection and screening on all close contacts to this index case, an additional 13 Covid-19 positive cases were detected.
“As of March 10, a total of 335 individuals have been screened with 14 testing positive including the index case, 301 negative and another 20 are still awaiting test results.
“The spread of the infection is believed to have occurred through close interaction and congregational prayer activities in the village’s surau,” SDMC added.
There are 27 active Covid-19 clusters in the state with Buloh Cluster in Selangau, Jalan Muhibbah Cluster in Betong, Emperoh Jambu Cluster and Jalan Green Cluster in Kuching as well as Gelong Cluster in Kapit recording new cases today.
