ROLLAND Duat Jubin (GPS-Meluan) has once again called for expedited approval from the State Planning Authority (SPA) for a petrol station in Julau, drawing attention to the prolonged hardship faced by his constituents.
Speaking during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) debate in support of the Supply Bill 2025, he highlighted the prolonged delays affecting the project, despite receiving approval from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) on Aug 9, 2023.
“Our area in Julau has been without a petrol station for years. This issue has persisted through two terms of my service. My constituents are forced to travel to Sibujaya to refuel their vehicles, increasing their transportation costs.”
He urged SPA to address the matter promptly, noting that a petrol station would significantly alleviate the burden on the people of Meluan.
“This has been a long-standing issue. Resolving it will not only ease the people’s struggles but also reflect positively on Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS),” he added.
Touching on the near-completion of the Pan Borneo Highway, Duat proposed increasing the speed limit from 100km/h to 120km/h, given the improved road conditions.
However, he stressed the need for stricter enforcement to curb dangerous practices such as driving against traffic flow and pedestrians crossing the highway.
“The safety of highway users must be prioritised, especially with the rise in accidents caused by reckless behaviour,” he urged.
He also advocated for the redelineation of electoral boundaries in his constituency, which he described as geographically vast. He said that this move would improve governance and ensure more effective development in the area.
“Redelineation is vital for efficient administration and development in Meluan. I also hope the redelineation of parliamentary constituencies will be expedited to restore Sarawak and Sabah’s rightful two-thirds representation in Parliament before the next general election.”
