MUKAH: A family from Kampung Kekan Dalat near here paid a memorable Gawai Dayak visit to a longhouse in Sibu on June 1. It was the first visit in about 19 years for Patrick Amir’s family to the longhouse located at Pasir Mas near Sungai Merah in Sibu.
According to one of Patrick’s children, who preferred to remain anonymous, their father’s elder brother, Utit Bin Kelepei, stayed in the longhouse after he married an Iban lady over 40 years ago.
“If I am not mistaken, the last time we visited this longhouse located along the Igan River was over 18 years ago. Our uncle married an Iban lady and they are blessed with not only children but also grandchildren and great grandchildren,” she said.
She disclosed that the last time they met their uncle, Utit was about three years ago in Kampung Kekan Dalat when their aunty (Utit’s sister) passed away.
Hence, this Gawai Dayak visit was indeed memorable for the children and especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren of Utit who had never seen Patrick and his family.
