SIBU: Five men robbed a swiftlet bird nest house and nearly raped the caretaker’s wife early Thursday (Oct 29).
In the 12.40am incident, the suspects fled with three mobile phones belonging to the caretaker and his wife.
Apart from that, bird nests weighing more than 5kg worth RM17,000 were also taken away.
In a statement, Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said police were hunting for the perpetrators.
In the incident, the 22-year-old caretaker’s hands were tied with wires.
The caretaker also told police that his wife was almost raped by one of the suspects.
“Based on the caretaker’s testimony, the suspects took more than an hour to collect the bird nests before they left,” said ACP Stanley.
“The caretaker has been living in the house with his wife and children for less than a year.
“According to his testimony, all the suspects wore face masks, long-sleeved shirts and black pants as well as black rubber boots and all were armed with iron spears.”
According to ACP Stanley, the incident was the first since the caretaker started working there but his employer revealed that it was the fifth incident in 10 years. No police report was made before.
The case is being investigated under Section 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.
