LUNDU: Sarawak men’s Kabaddi team has advanced to the semi-finals of the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2024, following a commanding victory over Melaka in the preliminary round held on Thursday at Lundu Community Hall.
In a dominant performance, Sarawak secured a 54-24 win, establishing a strong lead in the first half with a score of 32-12.
They continued to outpace Melaka in the second half, adding another 22 points to their tally, comfortably sealing their place in the semi-finals.
Sarawak face the Federal Territories today (Aug 23), with hopes of securing a spot in the finals.
In the women’s competition, Sarawak also had a strong showing in the morning session, defeating Penang 56-25.
They led 28-10 in the first half and maintained their momentum in the second half, winning comfortably.
However, the women’s team faced a setback in their afternoon match against the Federal Territories.
Despite their earlier success, Sarawak was defeated 27-51, with the Federal Territories pulling ahead in both halves.
This loss means that Sarawak women’s team will return home without a medal in the Kabaddi event.
