MERADONG District Police open a counter to enable the public easy access to them in making reports about any crime in their areas.

BINTANGOR:   Meradong police suceeded in arrested a number of individuals suspected in various burglary cases in the district.

Local District Police chief DSP Sofian Abu Bakar said those detained suspects were aged between 19 and 45 years old, some of whom were found with more than one previous record of the same crime.

“The arrest was made under Section 379A of the Penal Code for theft of auto parts and Secrion 379 for theft of vehicles in 2012, 2015 and 2017.

“This success was the result of solid police commitment. We are also monitoring constantly the matter (of vehicle thefts). The police are also hoping for public cooperation in helping to eradicate this crime of vehicle thefts,” he pointed out.

Pertaining to this, he also advised community members who leave their homes for a long duration to report the matter to the police so that police surveillance could be geared up to prevent thieves from having a field day.

In regard to this too, police are in the process of activating their Home Safety Campaign as a step towards addressing house break-ins and thefts during festive seasons.

“House owners can come over to the police station to fill in a form to enable police to patrol their area during their absence.

“We are also introducing the Voluntary Smart Phone Patrol system (sistem Rondaan Sukarela Telefon Pintar) or VSP by downloading the apps into one’s iPhone. This is an easier way for the public to inform the police when they are leaving their homes,” he said.

The police chief also said Meradong police are always committed in their efforts of combating crimes.

Apart from individual residences, shop houses and kampung houses are also usual targets of thieves.

“Among their modus operandi is to break the back doors and window panes of residences and the enter the residences with the aim to steal whatever valuable items found inside,” he explained.
