KOTA SAMARAHAN: More than 300 residents gathered at the Kampung Empila Mosque grounds on yesterday (July 17) to participate in the Merdeka Sarawak Travel Convoy, which commemorates 60 years of Sarawak Independence.
The event began with a lively programme at 7.30am, followed by the arrival of over 60 motorcyclists from outside the area as part of the convoy.
The event attracted local youths, who actively participated in the ceremony and explored the exhibition and sales stalls showcasing local products.
Kampung Empila headman Man Nasa expressed his satisfaction with the active involvement of young people, stating that the main objective of the programme was to ignite the spirit of independence, especially among the youth.
“We are delighted by the vibrant celebration, particularly the enthusiastic participation of the youth, despite it being a working day. It is even more gratifying to see representatives from almost all the villages attending the event,” he told the media.
Man emphasised that the programme’s focus on youth involvement, both in managing the event and participating in the convoy, aimed to provide them with valuable exposure in honouring Sarawak’s independence day.
Meanwhile, he mentioned that the convoy, comprising more than 100 participants, including drivers, proceeded smoothly.
“The convoy’s route began at the Empila Mosque and continued to Kampung Tanjung Parang before concluding in Simunjan as the final location.”
