KUCHING: The inaugural Kuching Heritage Lights and Floral Festival 2024 was recently launched Aug 22 – 24 by the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries, and Performing Arts Sarawak, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah on Thursday night at the Kuching Waterfront.
It was organised as an initiative to preserve the Kuching Waterfront, aligning with the city’s commitment to a cheerful, safe, smart, and green urban development.
“This festival has enhanced the beauty of the Waterfront and Kuching City, especially during this time where we have many visitors, particularly those involved in the Malaysia Games (SUKMA).
“They will be able to enjoy the initiative made by the state government,” Abdul Karim said when interviewed by reporters at the festival.
He also expressed his appreciation to DBKU, MBKS and other agencies involved in making the festival a success as it transformed Kuching city to be vibrant, beautiful and clean.
“Programmes such as this can benefit entrepreneurs involved in horticulture, flowers and plant sales, and we will certainly welcome this festival to be held annually,” he lauded.
Among the programmes lined up are exhibition booths, food stalls, a Terrarium competition, flower bouquet and table arrangement workshops, and other activities in conjunction of the festival.
The festival will also showcase the Gendang Nopeng Arts on Aug 22, followed by the official launch of the Kuching Heritage Lights and Floral Festival, and the Rhythm of the Night musical featuring the Potress Group on Aug 23.
The Malam Rentak Warisanku concert will be held on Aug 24, with special performances by Sarawakian artists like Claudia Geres, Hazmel, Gabriel Fairuz and Safar Ghaffar.
