KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here has sentenced a local man to seven months in prison for possession of methamphetamine.
Ezry Khaqimi Ali, 39, pleaded guilty to the charges before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan, under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, with penalties provided under Section 12(3) of the same Act.
He was found with the illicit drug in a room at a residence on Jalan Ajibah Abol at approximately 1.30pm on May 9.
According to the case facts, police officers conducted a raid on the premises after observing suspicious behaviour from Ezry.
During the search, they discovered a plastic packet containing a crystalline substance inside a recycling bag, suspected to be methamphetamine.
Subsequent testing in a chemist’s report verified that the substance was indeed methamphetamine, with a total weight of 0.22 grams.
The prosecution was led by ASP Suziana Suleiman. Ezry, however, faced the charges unrepresented.
