SIBU: For 120 years, Sibu Methodist Schools (SMS) have been beacons of education, illuminating the path of knowledge and virtue for countless young minds.
Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek said both SMK Methodist and SJK Methodist have stood the test of time, consistently upholding the motto of “Seek, Find, and Serve.”
“These guiding principles have not only shaped the educational experience within our institution but have also fostered a spirit of service, compassion, and excellence among our students and alumni,” he said during SMS’s 120th anniversary cum 50th anniversary of SMS Alumni Association’s celebration banquet held in a leading hotel here on Saturday night.
Chieng, who is also the SMS Alumni Association chairman, said the alumni have played a vital role in carrying forward the legacy of the alma mater, contributing to the betterment of society, and exemplifying the values instilled in them during their time at SMS.
“The 50th anniversary of our Alumni Association is a milestone that speaks volumes about the enduring bond we share,” he said, adding, it is a testimony to the strength of our alumni network, the values we hold dear, and the sense of belonging that unites us.
“Over the years, our association has made significant strides in promoting education, fostering fellowship, and giving back to our alma mater. As we celebrate this achievement, let us also recommit ourselves to the noble cause of supporting education and empowering the next generation. As we commemorate these dual anniversaries, let us celebrate not only our past achievements but also look forward to the limitless possibilities that lie ahead. Together, we can continue to inspire, educate, and serve, leaving an indelible mark on the world,” Chieng added.
Among those present were press secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ross Sia Wan Teng who represented the Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing as guest of honour, Sibu Division Chinese Paramount leader Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming, Management Board Chairman of SMK Methodist John Ting Sik Kang, Management Board honorary chairman of SJK Methodist Tan Sri Datuk Tiong Su Kouk, and Management Board Chairman of SJK Methodist Datuk Tiong Thai King.
