KUCHING: Thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecasted in Sarawak until 8 pm today (April 23).
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), in a statement, said the affected areas would be Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu (Sibu and Kanowit), Mukah (Tanjung Manis), Kapit (Song), Miri, and Limbang.
A thunderstorm warning is issued when there are signs of a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20 mm/hour, which is expected to last for more than an hour or is close to it.
Furthermore, a thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
In the meantime, the public is urged to monitor the weather conditions through the department’s official website at https://www.met.gov.my/en/, the myCuaca mobile application, or the department’s official social media pages.
