KUCHING: The Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) successfully launched the official MICCI E- Commerce Chapter with a Round Table Discussion (RTD) to foster greater collaboration between key e-commerce industry players and regulators.
In a statement, it said that the newly-formed e-commerce chapter will serve as a platform for ongoing dialogue, policy development and regulatory alignment, with the goal of driving sustained growth for Malaysia’s e-commerce sector.
Titled ‘E-Commerce as a Catalyst for Malaysia’s Economic Resilience and Growth’, industry leaders from major e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Lazada and Mudah.my also participated in the event.
“The RTD centered around strategies ensuring the continued expansion of e- commerce benefits all sectors of society, especially underserved groups like rural MSMEs and women entrepreneurs, and to strengthen Malaysia’s economic resilience.
“Key highlights of the discussion include driving economic growth; strengthening consumer protection; and a healthy logistics sector.
“It is hoped that this event underscores the industry’s commitment to collaborating with government bodies to co-develop policies that cultivate long-term, inclusive growth for Malaysia’s thriving e-commerce sector.”
MICCI president Christina Tee said that this e-commerce chapter marks an important milestone in strengthening Malaysia’s position as a digital economy leader.
“We are creating a vital bridge between industry players and regulators by fostering open dialogue to meaningfully address industry challenges, champion innovation and foster inclusive growth.
“E-commerce has the power to drive economic resilience, and through this chapter, we are committed to building a collaborative and forward-looking ecosystem that benefits all stakeholders, especially in empowering businesses and underserved communities.”
Meanwhile, Shopee Malaysia director Cheng Xun Chua highlighted their commitment to uplifting Malaysians nationwide to succeed in the digital space through an inclusive and easily accessible ecosystem.
“Being a part of the MICCI E-Commerce Chapter allows us to create meaningful change through insightful collaborations with policymakers and industry partners to benefit all communities of users.

Lazada Malaysia CEO Kaya Qin expressed excitement to collaborate with industry peers to shape the future of e- commerce in Malaysia.
“Together, we aim to champion and safeguard the industry, while fostering a robust and sustainable e-Commerce ecosystem that benefits both consumers and businesses.”
Mudah.my Sdn Bhd CEO Gaurav Bhasin shared that Mudah.my believes in the transformative power of e-commerce to empower local SMEs, create meaningful job opportunities, and bridge the digital divide.
“As we collaborate with policymakers, such as the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), our shared priority is to co-create policies that strike a balance between innovation and regulation.
“This approach ensures sustainable growth for all stakeholders, particularly underserved communities, including rural SMEs and women entrepreneurs.”
