SIBU: More than 2,000 visitors attended the mid-autumn festival night programme organised by the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) in collaboration with Farley Supermarket held at the latter’s main stage in Jalan Salim here on Saturday (Sept 23).
The programme commenced with talks by SMC staff on Anti-rabies and E-Billing: Application for assessment rates.
This was followed by Lantern distribution, Miss Ethnic Creative & Chinese Traditional Fashion show, lantern walkabout as well as lion and dragon dance performances. Mooncakes were also distributed to the attendees.
The event was officiated by councillor Jenny Ting, who represented SMC chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horth.
In her speech, Jenny pointed out that the mid-autumn festival is an important festival in Chinese culture and it also symbolises family reunion.
According to her, it is not only an important festival but also a time to unite to pursue peace, prosperity and happiness together.
“Here, I would also like to call upon everyone to continue to build a clean and safe Sibu and learn to be a responsible citizen.”
Jenny also called on the public to always maintain unity and harmony among the various ethnicities to make Sibu more prosperous.
She said multiracial unity is very important for Sarawak to continue to progress, which facilitates all government plans and agendas to be carried out.
“This is because our leaders often remind the people in Sarawak to continue to defend the unity and harmony that we have practiced for a long time. Continuous development can only be implemented if there is strong unity among the people,” she stressed.
Among those present were Farley Group general manager Eijing Lau and organising chairman councillor Paul Teo Ming Pau.
