MIRI: A migrant worker was killed days after his birthday on Sept 11 in an accident involving a motorcycle and a tanker truck at the Bekenu junction, Jalan Miri-Bintulu here on Monday (Sept 13).

The motorcyclist, Muhammad Yahya Simang, 43, an Indonesian national, was confirmed dead at the scene by paramedics.

“According to witnesses, prior to the incident, the victim was seen leaving the farm where he worked, which was located opposite the Bekenu junction, to go to Bekenu while the lorry was going straight towards Bintulu from Miri.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the victim is believed to have lost control of his bike and hit the left side of the lorry, causing the motorcycle to get stuck under the vehicle,” said Miri Fire and Rescue Department Zone 6 chief Supt Law Poh Kiong today (Sept 13).

Law added that the rescuers extricated the victim, who was pinned under the lorry, using a hydraulic cutter.
