LUNDU: The Batang Kayan Festival is being used as a platform to showcase Lundu as a potential eco-tourism hotspot.
Tanjung Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan said the festival, themed ‘When We All Unite As One’, celebrates the district’s cultural diversity.
“The theme reflects our harmonious community,” he said, adding that the state government is committed to developing Lundu as a prominent eco-tourism destination.
“Lundu boasts stunning beaches, pristine rainforests, and unique cultural traditions,” Azizul said during the festival launch at Waterfront Lundu today (July 26).
To support this vision, several major development projects are underway, including a RM55 million tourist service centre and a RM25.5 million erosion control barrier and marina, he said.
A RM3.5 million upgrade of Kampung Sampadi Fishermen’s Jetty will also boost tourism in the Sampadi area, he added.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated at the festival, which was also attended by federal Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, chief political secretary to the Premier Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman and Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang.
