KUALA LUMPUR: As part of its Breakfast Campaign, Milo continues to cultivate the importance of breakfast by educating parents about the daily energy requirements of their children, as well as why it is important to start their day with a healthy and wholesome Sahur in preparation for the upcoming holy month of Ramadhan.

Parents have mismatched expectations of their children’s daily energy needs, and what is required to help them take on the various activities at school and after.

While providing a balanced Sahur to children during Ramadhan gives them sufficient energy to last throughout the fast, it is also essential to ensure that the food is healthful and packed with the energy required by a growing child.

An internal review conducted by Milo has revealed that a child expends up to 1,500 kcal on an average school day, which is as much energy needed for high intensity activities such as climbing a mountain, swimming 50 laps in a pool, or even running a half marathon.

This was measured by estimating the amount of energy a child spends on a variety of activities such as going through school, tuition, sport activity through the day, from the moment they wake up till they get to bed.

“Milo continues to champion breakfast, as we aim to inculcate the breakfast habit amongst Malaysians, especially for kids, so that they can start their day right. This is especially crucial during the month of Ramadhan, as children will be fasting and they will need a lot more energy to take on their day.

“Giving children a wholesome Sahur paired with Milo sets their body’s momentum, ensuring that they will have the energy to sustain their fast throughout the day,” said Nurul Iliani Ahmad, Senior Nutritionist, Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad at the Bersahur Dengan Milo school visit at SK Seri Permaisuri, Bandar Seri Permaisuri in Cheras.

In order to help children get more out of their Sahur, Milo recommends the intake of a balanced meal based on the Malaysian Healthy Plate concept.

“Children can get more out of their day when they consume a nutritious Sahur with Milo, which contains calcium, Activ-Go, a unique combination of Protomalt and essential micronutrients. Besides giving them the energy to go further, these vitamins and minerals help with a child’s overall growth and development,” added Nurul Iliani.

As part of its efforts to reach out to more Malaysians and drive the importance of breakfast during Ramadhan, MILO is visiting 40 schools across the country to educate over 40,000 school children on the importance of Bersahur with MILOto sustain their day during Ramadan.
