PADAWAN: The Defence Ministry (MinDef) has launched an impactful initiative tailored for the residents of Kampung Darul Islam Belimbing on Jalan Puncak Borneo today (Nov 18).

Army Eastern Field Commander Lieutenant General Datuk Mohd Sofi Md said the strategic programme centres around spirituality, education and healthcare, specifically designed for the villagers.

He said the programme constitutes a fundamental aspect incorporated within the broader initiative, and the military has been executing this comprehensive programme since yesterday.

“Additionally, efforts have been made to promote the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) with the aim of drawing increased participation from the Sarawak community.

“There are four objectives for this programme, firstly, we support the core principles outlined in MinDef’s strategic plan.

“Secondly, we support the supreme command applied in conjunction with the issued orders, which is the ‘Military together with the people’, the third objective is to promote MAF careers, and the fourth is to provide services,” he said when met by reporters during the programme.

He further noted that a range of activities has been carried out, including this morning’s friendly interaction with the villagers.

Looking at the history of this village, he added, it is commendable as there are about seven or eight individuals who have served in our services—army, navy, and air force, all three components.

“So this morning, I want to inform those who are still interested that there are opportunities, but it depends on the conditions and qualifications to become a military member,” he said.

“Initially, we conduct preliminary selections; if they meet academic and health criteria, they proceed to the final selection.

“Of course, they may not serve in Sarawak because the military is stationed wherever it is needed,” he noted.

This morning, approximately 500 individuals took part in the programme, comprising 300 villagers and the remaining 200 members from the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF).
