MUKAH: Sixty-six participants took part in the Mini 4WD Borneo Challenge Mukah Cup 2018 which ended last Sunday night.
Held at Dewan Sri Balau of UiTM Mukah Campus, here in Mukah, the competitors came from Brunei, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Kuching and Mukah.
The three-day race from 30 March to April 1 was an inaugural event for this fast growing district of Mukah and was believed to be the first in the state of Sarawak.
The event manager, Abang Shawn Fendi Abang Kiprawi, from UiTM Mukah, when met by New Sarawak Tribune during the quarter final event in the afternoon pointed out that the competition also the caught attention of those from Indonesia who unfortunately had to cancel their trip at the eleventh hour.
“Infact, we also received the response from Indonesia; however, they could not make it and cancelled their trip. This is the first competition for us and definitely for Mukah, and probably the first in the state of Sarawak and in Borneo to be held in this quite a scale. With more than 60 participants, I should say that it is a very good start for future events,” he said.
He disclosed that for the championship, the winner walked away with RM3,000 and the championship trophy.
“First runner-up took home RM1,000 and trophy while winner for third place won RM700 and trophy whereas fourth place winner walked away with RM300 and trophy. For the fifth place winner, the prize was RM200 plus a trophy while RM150 and trophy were received by the winner in sixth spot,” he said.
It is learnt that the race involving this miniature racing car was introduced and being popularised by Japan with the first engine produced by the company from this land of the rising sun, Tamiya Plamodel Factory that marketed this miniature racing machinery throughout the world until now.
“Infact, the race is not as easy as expected because it involves a thorough and conscientious effort in constructing it to get the perfect speed and stability in accordance to the condition of the track for every race stated in the competition. The modification of the engine of the car as a common factor of the race is also called Mini Engineering,” he said.
This competition which was organised by UiTM Mukah in collaboration with Frenz Mini 4WD attracted the participants of the members of public and some students of UiTM.
The objectives of staging the tournament were to promote UiTM Mukah at its highest level possible, to promote and uplift the Mini 4WD sports and also an avenue to foster closer rapport among the participants of the race which is open to racers from Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia.
Other side activities involving the students of this institution of higher learning located about 14 miles from Mukah town were sales stalls, exhibition booths and other appealing indoor games.
