SIBU: United Association of Private Chinese Secondary School Boards of Management will be building a mini museum for materials related to Chinese education in the region.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, project chairman Dr Hu Chang Lek said the museum, to be built within Wisma Hua Wen Duzhong, will house exhibits, artefacts and documents on the early development of Chinese education, especially, Chinese Independent schools, in the state.
“It will be the first of its kind in the country and is expected to ready by June next year,” he added.
Dr Hu also revealed that they were looking to get materials out of the many wooden primary schools in the town’s outskirts as many of these schools have great historical values.
“We are now appealing to those who might have old photographs of historical buildings of these schools. We are interested in the photographs.
“We also want old furniture pieces such as chairs and tables, printers, typewriters and old Senior Cambridge Certificate for display in the museum,” he said.
Dr Hu added that they are inviting students, teachers and members of the public to contribute these items to the museum.
“It will showcase the development of Chinese education in Sibu in particular, and in Malaysia in general. We believe the people will learn from the exhibits,” said United Association of Private Chinese Secondary School Boards of Management chairman Temenggong Vincent Lau.
Lau added that the museum would be a rich resource centre for those doing research on Chinese education.
