KUCHING: Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (M-FICORD) Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom received a courtesy call from a delegation of the Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (FELCRA).
In a Facebook post, the visit by the delegates was led by the chief executive officer of Felcra Berhad Group Datuk Mat Roni Zakaria at the Sarawak Land Development Board (SLDB) office on yesterday (March 22).
“The purpose of this visit is to discuss joint ventures in the implementation and strategy of developing rice crops in Sarawak.
“The Sarawak government aims to increase the self-sufficiency level of rice production which is currently at a level of 38 per cent to 60 per cent by the year 2030,” the posting said.
Among the roles of FELCRA is to provide assistance to the rural community to carry out agricultural activities more effectively, improve infrastructure in rural areas and build better housing for residents.
FELCRA is also responsible for providing training and skills to those involved in agriculture and business and giving them support to expand their businesses.
Apart from that, FELCRA is also involved in the development of rural communities and helps improve their quality of life as well as focusing on human capital development and human resource management in the agricultural sector.
Also present were M-FICORD acting permanent secretary Sirai Daha, Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak director Dr Adrian Susin Ambud, Department of Agriculture deputy director Ronald Ripid, SLDB acting general manager Denys Antas, caretaker regional general manager of Felcra Bhd Sarawak M Zaiful Anuar Zulkifli as well as government officials and representatives from other agencies.
