KUCHING: Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah has welcomed the government’s initiative in aiding selected groups for the Unity Package Fixed Internet Broadband.
In line with the Malaysia Madani concept, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil recently announced the package to ease the cost of living for the B40 families, veterans, people with disabilities (OKU), and the elderly.
Fatimah said the announcement is good news for the people as the package is priced at a cheaper rate.
“Having this package is in line with the principle of equity. For that, I hope these groups (that the package is aimed for) will not miss out on this bargain,” she said.
However, the minister added that the only people who will, unfortunately, miss out on this bargain are those who are living in the rural areas.
“This is because there are still certain areas in the rural areas that do not have internet coverage.
“Therefore, the package and offer will not bring any benefit nor meaning to them,” she added.
For the record, the said package provides unlimited data and up to 30Mbps speed for RM69 per month with a 24-month contract period.
Fahmi said the companies involved in the initiative include Telekom Malaysia, CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, YTL, Time Berhad and Astro.
