KUCHING: Ministry of Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development is looking forward to working together with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) on several projects aimed at improving the lives of children in Sarawak.
Its minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah expressed her enthusiasm for this collaboration, which includes initiatives like the Indigenous Community Preschool Curriculum.
“This effort will strengthen the indigenous preschool curriculum in Sarawak through the integration of global citizenship education (GCED) and project-based learning (PBL),” she said during a press conference, following a courtesy visit from UNICEF representative Robert Gass at her office here yesterday.
Furthermore, she introduced the Sarawak Child Well-being Index, which will gather important information about the health and happiness of children. This data will shed light on the challenges faced by various groups and communities in Sarawak.
Fatimah also highlighted the CashPlus Program, which will bring together social protection and services for children in need.
Another important aspect of this collaboration is the Child-Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI), supported by the Ministry of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, in addition to her own ministry.
She added that five city councils in Sarawak, including Kuching South City Council, Miri City Council, North Kuching City Council, Padawan Municipal Council, and Sibu Municipal Council, have already signed the CFCI agreement.
Gass shared his excitement about the potential impact of their partnership with the Sarawak Government.
“Sarawak offers valuable examples that we’d love to replicate,” he said.
