KUCHING: Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah expressed his hope that civil servants entrusted with checkpoint duties would carry out their responsibilities with integrity, highlighting the need to address corruption cases that tend to occur in such environments.

During a press conference for the Seniman Award 2023, the Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister stressed the importance of preventing corruption among those on duty.

He acknowledged that corruption incidents may go unnoticed unless they are reported, and if both the giver and receiver willingly engage in corrupt activities, the matter remains hidden from authorities.

“They wouldn’t want to report themselves so the authorities would not know that corruption happened there.

“Moreover, we do hear a lot of it happening not only at the airports but at the borders as well. Therefore, I hope this matter will be addressed,” he said on Tuesday (July 4).

Addressing the civil servants working at checkpoints, he advised them to uphold the reputation of their agencies, departments, and the nation.

“Whatever you do, do not tarnish the good name of the agency, the department that you work for, the state, and the country.

“I hope that the authorities will thoroughly investigate the matter that happened at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. It is sad that this kind of thing happens.”
