KUCHING: Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of telecommunication companies must collaborate to address the network coverage problem.
Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fadzil said that while household 4G coverage in Malaysia has reached an impressive 96.92 per cent, no telecommunication company has achieved the same level of coverage.
“This issue primarily stems from commercial considerations related to profitability and the feasibility of equipment installation,” said Fahmi in a press conference during his visit at Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) yesterday.
“However, in our pursuit of narrowing the digital divide, telco companies must develop a sustainable solution to ensure no communities or areas are left behind.”
Fahmi added that customers who pay for internet packages expect coverage throughout Malaysia, not limited to certain areas. In light of this, he has engaged in discussions with telco company CEOs to foster a shared understanding of the issue.
Meanwhile, Fahmi reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to resolving the network coverage problem in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and telco companies.
