KUCHING: The Council of Ministers has agreed in principle with the drafting of the Political Contribution Bill.
According to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, the basic scope of the bill was presented in the Cabinet meeting on Sept 7.
He said that he would follow up with the decision that this bill be enacted whereby the Political Contribution Controller is made as an independent entity to regulate political contributions in this country.
“The drafting of this bill will take into account the views of stakeholders including political parties through engagement sessions held,” he said in a statement today.
Wan Junaidi added that he would follow the views of the Council of Ministers so that the proposed legal framework for this bill is submitted to the Technical Committee on the Memorandum of Understanding on Political Transformation and Stability to be refined before being presented in the Parliament meeting later.
“As such, we will try to present this bill at the third meeting, Fifth Term, 14th Parliament in the Dewan Rakyat,” he said.
