KUCHING: A recent discussion between the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability (MoEES) and the Lembaga Amanah Kebajikan Masjid Sarawak (LAKMNS) focused on energy efficiency and the potential for green building initiatives.
Chaired by LAKMNS chief executive officer Datuk Abang Abdul Wahab Abang Julai and MoEES permanent secretary Abang Ahmad Abang Morni, the meeting delved into collaborative projects centred on smart building solutions aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and promoting the adoption of the green building index.
“Both parties expressed optimism on the potential impact of such initiatives on Sarawak’s landscape, particularly in reducing emissions from buildings and fostering the development of smart and low-carbon cities.
“This collaborative effort aligns with Sarawak’s overarching goal of reducing emissions, particularly in the building sector, as part of its net-zero strategy.
“The call to action was reinforced by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, emphasising the importance of environmental sustainability as outlined in the state’s Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030) and moving towards net zero,” MoEES said in a recent statement.
The ministry reiterated Sarawak’s possesses of the capability and dedication to uphold stringent environmental standards.
“Any insinuation otherwise is unfounded, as Sarawak remains committed to ensuring the integrity of its environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and upholding the highest standards of environmental stewardship,” MoEES added.
The ministry assured it will continue its commitment to forge partnerships across various sectors to enhance their potential and move towards a green economy and net-zero emissions.
“It is important to note that all efforts and initiatives are integral components of Sarawak’s PCDS and green economy agenda,” MoEES said, adding that collaboration and innovation will remain its priority to achieve its vision of a greener, more resilient future.
