Ministry and MBDC collaborate for bioenergy

KUCHING: The Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability (MEESty) and Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (MBDC) have engaged in several discussions.

Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Hazland Abg Hipni stated that the discussions aimed to enhance and clarify MBDC’s role under the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOSTI) and to promote cooperation with MEESty in advancing green technologies, particularly in bio-energy.

“MBDC presented various grants provided by MOSTI for research and development by start-up companies,” said Dr Hazland.

During the meeting, the focus was on bio-energy to gain insights into the current developments in the energy sector in Sarawak. Dr Hazland mentioned that MOSTI, through MBDC, has allocated development and research grants to explore this field further.

Regarding the grants discussed, Dr Hazland mentioned the following: the Applied Innovation Fund of RM500,000, the Technology Development Fund 1 of RM1 million, the Technology Development Fund 2 of RM3 million, the Bridging Fund (BGF) of RM5 million, and the Strategic Research Fund (SRF) of RM15 million – APP.

“This initiative reflects Malaysia’s commitment to advancing sustainable technologies and fostering innovation in the bio-economy sector,” he added.
