LIMBANG: Limbang has come a long way from being a small town to a developing district today, and its latest landmark, the new Limbang Museum, is proof of this.

Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the museum, built at a cost of RM6.39mil, also had a soft spot in Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s heart as “it is located in the Premier’s birth place.”

“Not only for the Premier but for the communities in Limbang as well. I myself and the Museum Department are proud to see the opening of this museum,” he said during the opening ceremony of the museum here today, which was officiated by Abang Johari.

He explained that the museum would have two galleries, one of which would be a replica of quarters of government officials in the past, and the other one would display information about the development of Limbang.

“Therefore, we want to develop more places of interest such as old forts, old government buildings, which we can modify and gazette as heritage centres and museums.

“And museums are a product that can generate high revenue as well as providing knowledge to future generations.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister for Agriculture Modernisation and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul  Rahman Ismail said the opening of the museum coincided with Abang Johari’s birthday, Aug 4.

his museum will tell the stories of the administrative history of Limbang Division, and become one of the landmarks and attractions in this district.

hanks to the efforts of the Sarawak government, and God willing, many more development projects will be done, particularly in this district.
