KUCHING: Decisions regarding school operations and activities during the current hot weather will be based on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) set by the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD) Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the ministry will only refer to the SOPs to decide on any closure or continuity of curricular activities.

“On this matter, we are guided by the SDMC decisions, which are under the chairmanship of Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas. So, they will issue directives from time to time.

“This is because we consider the current weather as a disaster. So, we stay guided by them,” he said.

He said this during a press conference regarding new recruitment initiative and updates to  address shortage of teachers in Sarawak held at Sarawak Skills here today.

He emphasised that the ministry would certainly comply to whatever conditions or terms that SMDC would give.
