ASAJAYA: The Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) welcomes the proposal to build a boxing training centre in Sri Aman to develop local boxing talent.
Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the proposal, put forth by Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, will be considered by his ministry.
“He said that they have made a proposal for the construction of boxing sports facilities in Sri Aman and I admit that boxing is very popular in that area.”
Abdul Karim said this when met by reporters during the Qurban meat distribution programme at the Kampung Asajaya Ulu Community Hall, yesterday.
The Asajaya assemblyman added that the boxing event in the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) will be held in Sri Aman.
“We will consider the suggestion from Datuk Francis to establish Sri Aman as a boxing centre in Sarawak so that we can produce more boxers for the state and, God willing, for the country.”
Regarding the Qurban meat distribution programme, Abdul Karim said the programme is held every year at DUN Asajaya to benefit the Muslim community, especially the asnaf group.
He explained that for yesterday’s programme, three cows were sacrificed in Kampung Asajaya Ulu in collaboration with the Asajaya District Office.
“And before this, I visited Kampung Sebandi Ulu, Kampung Serpan Laut, and other villages in DUN Asajaya, all of which held similar sacrificial events.
“Alhamdulillah, due to the improved communication facilities, it is easier for us to visit this district. It used to be very difficult because of the poor road conditions that made this area difficult to access.”
