KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Sarawak have taken action against four traders under the Weights and Measures Act 1972 during an inspection on Thursday (July 16).

In a statement issued, three wet market traders were compounded with a RM100 fine each for using expired weighing devices and a hardware dealer was prosecuted for using expired weighing devices as well as using tools or units other than those permitted.

The use of expired weighing devices is an offence under Section 14 (6) of the Weights and Measures Act 1972.

Throughout 2020, KPDNHEP Sarawak received 218 cases under the Weights and Measures Act 1972 with a compound value of RM33,300 while the value of seizures was RM53,036.
