KUCHING: The Ministry of Works is currently implementing four projects in Sarawak worth about RM1.636 billion, said Senior Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
He said these projects were the Jalan Medan Jaya-Jalan Tun Hussein Onn flyover in Bintulu, upgrading of Route 8108 Jalan Datuk Musa up to G3 Kota Samarahan Roundabout, construction of access road to the south of Kuching International Airport (KIA) and the first phase of Sabah-Sarawak Link Road (SSLR) from Lawas to the Long Lopeng Junction.
Besides that, he said the ministry has also submitted Red Line projects in its proposals for the Second Rolling Plan of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
This is also one of our priority projects besides the Sabah-Sarawak Link Road (SSLR) project and the Trans Borneo Highway project, he said in a press conference after an engagement session with the media from Sarawak at Waterfront Hotel here on Saturday night.
Red Line projects refer to the upgrading of roads linked to the Pan Borneo Highway.
Meanwhile, during the engagement session, the ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Wira Wan Ahmad Uzir Wan Sulaiman said as of August this year, a total of 3,467 potholes on federal roads in Sarawak have been patched.
“The ministry introduced the ‘ZeroPotHole’ campaign in 2016 and the ‘Aku Janji Zero Potholes’ campaign in July 2020 before launching a new ‘Kita Jaga Jalan Kita’ campaign to ensure road and highway users are safe.
“Until now, a total of 3,467 potholes on federal roads in Sarawak have been patched within 24 hours.
“The 24-hour period means that we repair potholed roads within 24 hours from the date the issue is raised through public complaints and observations by the Public Works Department (PWD),” he said.
On the length of federal roads, Wan Ahmad Uzir said, there are a total of 20,017 km of federal roads throughout the country with 844.85 km located in Sarawak.
“For this year, a total of RM1.08 billion has been allocated for the maintenance of federal roads throughout the country, of which Sarawak received approximately about RM88.3 million.
“Each state in this country receives roughly the same share of funding,” he said.
