Ministry issues 11 notices for tourism-related offences

KUCHING: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) has issued 11 notices related to tourism offences in an integrated operation with the Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department yesterday (Aug 27).

The operation codenamed ‘Ops Bersepadu Luaran’, was held at Jalan Bako and Jalan Santubong.

Patrols were also conducted around Jalan Satok, Jalan Abdul Rahman Yaakob and Jalan Sultan Tengah.

The ministry’s officers issued nine notices under Section 4(1) of the Tourism Vehicles Licensing Act 1999, which states, “No person shall carry on or hold himself out as carrying on tourism vehicle business except a company which is licensed under the Tourism Industry Act, 1992 and which holds a valid licence granted under this section.”

The team also issued a notice under Section 26 of the Tourism Industry Act 1992 for not using the authorisation card of a licensed tourist guide while on duty.

Another notice was issued under Regulation 6(1)(i)(iii) of the Tourism Industry Regulations 1992 for not using the services of a licensed tourist guide.

Meanwhile, the police also issued 91 summonses for various traffic offences after inspecting 161 vehicles – 90 cars, 30 motorcycles, 16 vans, 15 multi-purpose vehicles and 10 lorries.

The integrated operation was held from 6.30 am to 1.30 pm with a total of 18 officers from MoTAC and the Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department.
