KUCHING: In a bid to ease the financial burden of public university students, the federal Transport Ministry (MoT) officially launched FlySiswa – a RM300 flight ticket subsidy initiative for public university students nationwide – on Tuesday (Aug 15).
MoT said in a press release that the scheme provides financial relief to students travelling between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territory of Labuan on domestic routes.
The subsidy is given as a credit shell and is meant for students to travel between their place of origin and the place of study.
Students can determine their eligibility by checking the ministry’s official website at https://subsidiudara.mot.gov.my/ and use the subsidy to book tickets on Malaysia Airlines (including MASwings and Firefly), AirAsia, Batik Air and MYAirline.
At a glance – who are eligible for the RM300 subsidy:
- Students from Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan studying in Malaya
- Students from Malaya studying in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan

“The choice of airline lies with the student, who can make the selection through the airline company’s website,” MoT said.
Meanwhile, for students who do not meet the eligibility criteria, an avenue for appeal is available through their respective universities and the Ministry of Higher Education. The initiative is applicable to students enrolled in public universities beginning June 30 for the academic year of 2022/2023,
Successful applicants will receive digital vouchers valued at RM300. Should the cost of the purchased ticket fall below the RM300 value, the remaining balance will be retained in the credit shell for future use.
“The deadline for redeeming the voucher for flight ticket purchases is Dec 31, 2023. However, flight ticket purchases for travel after the voucher redemption deadline are allowed,” MoT added.
The subsidy is one of the unity government’s initiatives to strengthen ties between Malaya and Sabah and Sarawak, as well as the Federal Territory of Labuan in conjunction with the National Month celebration, and to address the cost of living in line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI.
