KUCHING: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) carried out an inspection at Mydin Hypermarket, Vista Tunku here to assess the implementation of the 2022 Deepavali Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP).
Sarawak KPDNHEP enforcement head Peter J. Benius Agang said the SHMMP was the ministry’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that families are not burdened by rising cost of living during the festive season due to the increased demand for certain items – in this case, Deepavali, which will be celebrated on Oct 24.
“The ministry has implemented the Maximum Price Control of Chicken and Chicken Eggs since Oct 12 and is still in effect, to stabilise the price of chicken and chicken eggs and the availability of supplies in the market.
“In addition, SHMMP Deepavali 2022 will be in effect for seven days from Oct 20 to 26 covering four days before the festival, one day during the festival and two days after the festival,” he explained.
Eight items are under SHMMP Deepavali 2022 – bone-in imported mutton, red chili, tomatoes, small shallots (Indian), imported large shallots, dal beans (Australia), coconut kernels (price at wholesale level only) and grated coconut (price at retail level only).
