KUCHING: The Ministry of Youth and Sports pledged to provide financial assistance for youth in Samariang to organise a big programme there in the future.
Prior to the provision, its minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah requested the youth in Samariang to come up with a proposal on the programme.
“The ministry will fully sponsor the programme as long as it has been properly planned for the benefit of the youth in the area.
“You can choose to organise whatever activities you like, be it arts, cultural, sports etc,” he said.
He said this when speaking at a town hall session with the Samariang youth at Jelajah Belia Sarawak 2020 @ Samariang held at Kampung Samariang Batu here, yesterday.
Abdul Karim who is also the Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister further announced an allocation of RM20,000 for SMK Tun Ahmad Zaidi for the purpose of funding their cultural and arts activities.
He also announced a RM10,000 support grant for the Samariang entrepreneurs’ incubator programme.
Over 1,000 attended the two-day event which started on Friday.
Other than the town hall session, other activities held included various competitions such as singing and e-sports, cultural shows, busking, sales of various products and lucky draws.
In addition, the participating youths were given ample opportunities to interact with their local leaders during the question-answer segment of the town hall session which included discussions over matters of common interest.
The programme is part of the ministry’s community engagement initiatives which aims to provide an avenue for local leaders to meet youths in their respective constituencies towards fostering better understanding and enhancing closer ties with one another.
Also present at the event were Samariang assemblywoman Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Youth and Sports Ministry’s acting permanent secretary Nancy Jolhi, and Kuching Resident Sherrina Hussaini.
