KUCHING: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) is encouraging the establishment of Senior Citizens Activity Centres (PAWE) in Sarawak.
Its minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said in Sarawak there are only 13 activity centres for the elderly and that the number is inadequate to accommodate the elderly here.
“So, we encourage the community to establish PAWE and we will provide assistance for this effort.
“However, they need to establish the centre first before applying for assistance,” she said.
She said this during a press conference at the Ramah Mesra Gathering KPWKM with the targeted group at Wisma Sabati here today.
Following this, she stated that the assistance rate that can be given will not exceed RM100,000 per year and it is also based on the application.
For the record, Community Wellbeing Development Deputy Minister Mohammad Razi Sitam previously has highlighted the need to establish PAWE in each district as Sarawak moves towards having an ageing population by 2030.
Touching on the event, Nancy informed that a total of over 3,000 guests were present consisting of the target groups namely PAWE, Child Protection Team (PPKK), Child Welfare Team (PKKK), Divisional Social Welfare Office (PKMB) and others.
“This is also our opportunity to approach the target group so that we can get to know them, and together with the volunteer group so that they also get to know each other,” she said.
