KUCHING: A total of 60 applications have been received under the Temporary Identification Documents (DSITKS) initiative as of Nov 29.
Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Well-being Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said applications which have been open since Nov 1 can be made through district offices as well.
“The applications that we have received need to be reviewed, whether at the district office level or the ministry.
“This is to ensure that the application form forwarded is complete and meets the requirements,” she told a press conference at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex, today (Nov 29).
Meanwhile, she disclosed that an outreach programme will be organised with strategic partners led by the Social Development Council (MPS) starting Dec 2.
According to Fatimah, several areas have been identified where critical masses of individuals are still considered stateless and without documentation.
“This outreach programme is to ensure that more children will obtain citizenship and temporary documentation.
“This is to prepare them for the upcoming school session which is in March and we want as many as our children, despite their citizenship status not yet been determined, we want them to have access to education. This is the purpose of the outreach programme,” she stressed.
Also present at the press conference were Deputy Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Well-being Development Datuk Rosey Yunus, Sarawak National Registration Department Director Awang Afferoz, the ministry’s permanent secretary Datuk Dr Rashidah Bolhassan and Sarawak Social Welfare Department Director Noriah Ahmad.
