SIBU: Women got to hear the advantages of shopping online at the opening of the Women’s Day 2023 celebration on Saturday.

They were told that making online purchases is easier in terms of choosing from a variety of products, making price comparisons, avoiding crowds, saving on fuel  and having unlimited time to shop.

Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sarawak Price Monitoring Officer, Nuya Rimau, pointed these out to some 20 representatives from non-governmental organisations (NGOs), federal agencies and the state government who attended the event.

The hybrid ceremony attended by Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg was held at the Julau District Office meeting room.

Consumer talk delivered by Nuya Rimau, Sarawak KPDN Price Monitoring Officer.

“Buying goods online has become a habit in modern society today and makes it easier for consumers to buy things without having to go to a physical store,” said Nuya.

However, she said there are still some issues.

“Consumers are often deceived, especially among women nowadays therefore, we should research first on the products offered,” she said.

Those who are not satisfied with the price or quality of goods or services can make inquiries and complaints at the KPDN hotline 1-800-886-800 which operates from Monday to Friday.

Siti Nurasmahusna Johari from the Julau District Volunteer Office said it was imperative that women become wise consumers online.

“They need to be sure about offers and advertisements before purchasing so as not to be boxed in by traders who like to take advantage,” she said.

Meanwhile a representative from the Julau District Office, Philomina Kudang said Women’s Day must be celebrated every year to appreciate and recognise the success achieved by women across the country.

“Women should be given appreciation so that they can be used as an inspiration for others out there who are ambitious and as proof that women are also highly capable of developing society and the country,” she added.
