KUCHING: Staff members of the Ministry of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (WCCW), the Sarawak Social Welfare Department, and the Department of Women and Family have been urged to continue upholding a high-performance and integrity-driven work culture.
Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah noted the importance of this commitment in achieving the vision of preserving community wellbeing for sustainable and dignified coexistence.
She revealed that various programmes have been conducted over the years to contribute towards achieving this goal.
“For instance, the Sarawak Preschool International Convention (SPIC) was successfully held last month with the theme ‘Supporting Inclusive Practices in Early Childhood Settings’. This convention illustrates the state government’s commitment to the wellbeing and future of the next generation.
“Besides this, the International Recovery Symposium took place in September, providing training and high-quality, ethical, evidence-based practice sharing on the prevention, treatment, and recovery from substance abuse.”
Fatimah made these remarks during the appreciation ceremony of the Ministry of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development at the Hilton Hotel here on Tuesday night (Dec 12).
Since 2016, she stated that 66 series of integrated social programmes have been carried out by OSTPC members, successfully showing an effect on the reduction of teenage pregnancy cases from 2016 (2,481 cases) until October 2023 (1,760 cases).
Simultaneously, she highlighted the role of the One Stop Committee (OSC) in addressing drug and substance issues as a medium to implement supply control and drug demand reduction (DDR) activities through an integrated, comprehensive, balanced, coordinated, and evidence-based approach.
“To provide access to treatment and rehabilitation support services for addicted individuals, there are 20 One Stop Centres for Addiction (OSCA) at selected health clinics and two Community Development and Intervention Centers (CDIC) in Bau and Dalat.”
