PUTRAJAYA: Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz has been suspended from his duties as senior private secretary to Deputy Primary Industries Minister with immediate effect for allegedly creating negative perception of the ministry.
Deputy Primary Industries Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said Haziq, who started his job in January as a contract officer, was absent without leave since Tuesday.
As such, Haziq was ordered to respond to a show-cause letter issued to him yesterday (June 12) within three days.
“The ministry will not hesitate to terminate his contract with immediate effect if no feedback is received from him within the stipulated time.
“If there is no answer, we will follow the administrative process to terminate his service because in his contract there is an undertaking to not commit misconduct which could affect the image and reputation of the government,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
Haziq posted a video confessing that he was one of two individuals in a leaked video linked to a minister.
Shamsul Iskandar said Haziq’s appointment as a ministry staff was based on current assessment, academic qualifications and his experience having served former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri as a trainee was also taken into account.
“He also showed professionalism in carrying out his duties at the ministry and this was also acknowledged by the ministry’s secretary-general,” he said.
Following the video confession, Shamsul Iskandar said he contacted Haziq via WhatsApp asking him to meet up at the office but there was no reply from him.
The ministry had also contacted Haziq’s family as well and was told that his family had no communication with Haziq and did not know his whereabouts.
Asked whether Haziq was in Sandakan on May 11, Shamsul Iskandar said if Haziq was indeed there, it was on his personal capacity and nothing to do with his job as a ministry official. – Bernama
