THE Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry acknowledges the importance of social media in promoting tourism.
Its assistant minister Datuk Sebastian Ting said the ministry would continue to help and empower industry players with knowledge and skills needed for marketing through social media.
“Recently, the ministry conducted the ‘Building Online Presence Through Digital Marketing Initiatives’ course for tourism industry players, especially inbound tourism operators, to boost their skills in digital technology and social media for the purpose of product and services marketing.
“Digital marketing courses such as these enable industry players to reach potential customers without boundaries in line with the Covid-19 new norm that requires industry players to be active online.”
Ting (SUPP-Piasau) was responding to a question from Miro Simuh (PBB-Serembu) at the DUN sitting on Monday (Nov 9).
He said the ministry would also work together with divisional tourism task forces chaired by the Resident from each state division.
He added that this would help expand the organisation of training courses in the future.
Ting said the ministry continued to promote Sarawak through digital platforms such as the Sarawak Travel application and portal, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter as well as WeChat and Weibo, to cater for the Chinese market.
“The ministry through STB has also conducted incentive programmes and online system fund to encourage and assist tourism players to improve their online systems.
“An application for RM5,000 in assistance can also be made to STB for the purpose of development and maintenance of websites, developing online income machinery, and marketing through social media.”
