KUCHING: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development will embark on a Kembara Kasih tour covering a journey of 1,456 kilometres from Kuching to Lawas.
Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the eight-day tour will pass through eight districts, including Sibu, Kapit, Bintulu, Sibuti, Miri, Limbang and Lawas.
She hoped the programme would have a significant impact and bring optimal benefits to the ministry’s target groups and the local communities.
“The Kembara Kasih involves all agencies under the ministry, such as the Social Welfare Department, the Women’s Development Department, the National Welfare Foundation, the Malaysian Social Institute, the Counsellors’ Board, the Sexual Harassment Tribunal and National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN).
“A variety of activities has been planned, and I hope the people of Sarawak will take advantage of this opportunity,” she said
when officiating at the Santuni Madani Community Programme in conjunction with the Kembara Kasih event at Masjid Nurir Rahmani in Kampung Santubong on Saturday (Sept 14).
Nancy, who is also the MP for Santubong, invited the public to join the launch of the Kembara Kasih tour and the inauguration of the One-Stop Social Support Centre (PSSS) at Kuching Waterfront on Sunday (Sept 15) at 10am.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to officiate at the event, which will feature various exciting activities.
“I also encourage everyone to participate in the Kembara Kasih photo contest. Capture your best moments during the programme and share them on Facebook with the hashtags #KembaraKasihKPWKM and #KPWKMPeduliRakyat,” she added.
In the meantime, Kampung Santubong has been added to the list of villages under the Santuni Madani Programme – One Leader, One Village.
Nancy explained that the special programme, introduced by the Prime Minister, aims to enhance the potential and capabilities of villages through continuous engagement and periodic monitoring.
She assured that other villages in the Santubong constituency would also benefit from the programme.
“Today, my team from the ministry and I are here to provide various services to the people of Santubong.
“I urge the people of Santubong not to miss this opportunity to access the services provided by the ministry and other collaborating agencies,” she said.
Among the available services are the Social Welfare Department’s counter for registration of people with disabilities (OKU) and inquiries regarding assistance.
Additionally, LPPKN will offer cervical cancer screenings and there will be booths by other government agencies, such as the National Registration Department and the Road Transport Department.
