KUCHING: The Home Affairs Ministry will assist the rural communities in citizenship matters via the Menyemai Kasih Rakyat (Mekar) programme, said Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Mohamed Said.
“We will go to the ground together with our mobile unit, our mobile bus, to help the people in the rural areas,” he said in reply to a question from Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong in Parliament, Putrajaya today.
He said it was the government’s intention to ensure everyone in the nation had a valid identity.
“We will discuss with the Education Department, state government and community leaders to ensure that those who require or are entitled to have citizenship are not ignored,” he assured.
When raising his question, Ugak said there were many within his constituency facing identity card issues, making it difficult for children sitting for public examinations.
He then asked about the mechanism to help the people without politicising the process of obtaining a MyKad.
Ugak pointed out that there was previously a special citizenship committee but this had been halted during the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration.
