SIBU: The federal Ministry of Housing and Local Government has been urged to intervene
on People Housing Project (PPR) Seduan at Sibu Jaya which is about two years behind
schedule of completion.

In making the call, deputy chairman of Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC), Wong Ching Yong
stated the project with a contract cost of RM92 million and scheduled to be ready
by Oct 22, 2022, is only 36.49 per cent completed.

“The location for the PPR Seduan falls within the SRDC’s jurisdiction. I am aware that SRDC
previously attended the meetings convened by the Ministry of Housing and Local
Government to discuss the handling of this project. However, since the meeting on Dec 5
last year, there has been no progress or follow-up from the ministry,” he stated in a press
statement issued at Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong Branch’s mobile service
held at a cafe in Sibu Jaya Commercial centre today (Aug 25).

According to Wong, who is also the branch chairman, the single-storey PPR Seduan divided
into phase one and two has a total of 461 housing units which can accommodate
approximately 2,305 people or represent at least 461 households.

“This is my third open request for intervention by the Lanang MP (Alice Lau Kiong Yieng) on
on the matter, with two previous requests went unanswered, and I hope this time will also
garner the attention of the Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming, as the
people desire.

“Nga revealed that his ministry has submitted the proposal to the Ministry of Finance for
the 2025 budget, amounting to RM1 billion. This includes the construction of 100 Madani
recreational parks nationwide. I would like to ask him to reveal whether any of the 33
proposed initiatives include the revival of the PPR Seduan and similiar severely delayed
projects.

“If not, why does the Ministry of Housing and Local Government prefer to spend large
amount of money on other projects like parks, while ignoring more critical projects such as
for the low income group,” Wong further stated.
