1,000 HOUSEMEN

KUCHING: It is a positive and timely move by the Health Ministry (MOH) to station 1,000 housemen at public hospitals nationwide to support medical staff, particularly doctors, who had their hands full due to the outbreak.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and Kuching North City Commission) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi pointed this out to New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

Dr Abdul Rahman, however, stressed that the housemen must be given adequate information, guidance and proper training in dealing with the Covid-19 related cases.

“Most of them may not be familiar with the importance of proper handling of these patients. At the same time, they must be well prepared both physically and mentally.”

On Saturday, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said these housemen would be placed at the public hospitals today (Mar 16).

“These housemen will help ease the burden faced by doctors and specialists who focus on Covid-19, and they will also help make hospital operations run smoother.

“However, the housemen will also have to go through an induction course for five days, including the handling of Covid-19 elements,” he explained.
